Motorcycle Licences Explained
R-N Scooter Licence (up to 50cc)
R-N for mopeds, motorcycles with a capacity of less than 50cc which are designed to do less than 60km/h.
To learn to ride a moped. You must be at least 15 ½ years of age.
To be granted a licence to drive an R-N (Motorcycle) class vehicle. You must be at least 16 years of age to undertake the Practical Riding Assessment and be granted a licence to drive R-N (Motorcycle) class vehicles
R-E Class Motorcycle Licence (up to 250cc)
R-E for motorcycles or scooters with an engine capacity less than 250cc
To learn to ride a motorcycle (not exceeding 250cc). You must be at least 16 years of age.
To be granted a licence to drive an R-E (Motorcycle) class vehicle. You must be at least 17 years of age.
R Class Motorcycle Licence (250cc or greater)
R for any motorcycle (unrestricted)
To learn to ride a motorcycle with an engine capacity exceeding 250cc, you must hold an R-E (Motorcycle) class licence.
To be granted a licence to drive an R (Motorcycle) class vehicle, you must have held a licence authorising you to drive an R-E (Motorcycle) class vehicle for at least one (1) year.
